Greetings!

A new magistrate is given the power of Judicial Magistrate Second Class when he joins. He is authorized to pass sentence of imprisonment of up to one year or fine of up to five thousand rupees or both.

He is given the power of Judicial Magistrate First Class after getting some experience. He has the power to pass sentence of imprisonment of up to three years or fine of up to ten thousand rupees or both.
