Can a cheque given 5 yrs back be presented in bank for the suit purpose?

to my knowledge you can file a suit for recovery of money along with a petition to condone delay. Limitation period for filing suit for recovery of money is 3 years from date of cause of action...regards... Adv Ravishankar from Chennai

you can present cheque in bank within 6
months of issue date, if undated you can put date and present in bank. otherwise after 3 years you have already been suggested by learned lawyer above

The date appearing on cheque, the date of presentation of the cheque in drawee bank, the obligation under which that cheque was given must be considered.  A blank cheque signed may also be given and it is legal unless it is proved the circumstances under which that cheque was given.
