Railway theft complaint matter in Court

railway theft case filed by my mother during train journey... after one year all of sudden she started receiving summons from lalitpur court 10 hours journey from her place... She is a single mother and i am married in another city she was unable to go in summons... even bench warrant was received... can a lawyer on her behalf can go and settle the dispute?
