can anyone change his/her caste

if we are free to change our religion then why not caste according to our conscience and is there any clear law or constitutional provision that forbid any person to be part of particular caste by observing their customs?is there any provision in old hindu laws/customs that prevents any person to change his caste? if valmiki ji can become brhamin from sudra the why not we can change our caste/varna. if varna and caste does not have any relevance in present society according to old hindu laws and customs then what is the of basis of these existence ?

There is not bar to change religion and the bar is not to change caste as the caste plays important role in reservation

RELIGION AND CASTE ARE DIFFRENT.

ONE HOLD A RELIGION,THAT'S WHY IT IS CHANGABLE

BUT CASTE IS BASED ON BIRTH OF ONE, THAT'S WHY CASTE NOT CHANGEABLE.

BUT THE ABOVE IS THE VIEW OF THE PRESENT JUDICIARY.

YOUR LOGIC IS ALSO STRONG. MAY BE IT WILL BE ACCEPTED IN FUTURE.

IF THE QUOTA FOR SC/ST WAS NOT THERE THEN CHANGE OF CASTE MAY BE ACCETABLE.

not only caste is based on birth, religion is also based on birth. after birth we start follow the principles and customs of religion as well as caste and in most of the cases we do not change our religion. we accept our religious belief without any arguments and without comparison with other religions.we take birth as a hindu, muslim, sikh, budhist ,christian etc. Without our wish we have to follow our religion from our childhood.

same is the case of caste but less customs & principle we have to follow to remain with particular caste. sometimes these principles are also not followed. caste related customs pertain to marriages, birth , death sanskar etc

there are several persons who do not write their caste with their name and are not happy to remain with their caste community because that community may have more restrictions to follow.for example some caste strictly follow the principle of different gotra marriage . if some person wants to disassociate himself from his caste community then he cannot do it legally .is it not against our natural right to choose our community as in case of our religion.
