Dear Quriest, in muslim marriage there are some requirments are very much essential i.e. 2 male witnesses, Valid consent (free consent), lawful considration (Mehar) because all the essentials are taken from the law of contract Act and without all the above essentials contract is not valid and muslim marriage is also not valid marriage.
