Customs duty

I have imported medicine for weight management from Newzeland company by paying through credit card for an amount of Rs.2,000/-. It was a small pocket sent through SPEED post and when it was received, the postman demanded Rs.877/- as customs duty for the meidcine sent through parcel.  Whether customs duty is imposable even for personal use of the medicine.

Items intended for personal use, which are exempt from the prohibitions under the FTP or the Customs Act, 1962, can be imported by postal channel on payment of appropriate duties under Tariff Heading 9804 of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975.

4.3 In case the Customs duty payable is not more than Rs.100/-, the same is exempt.
