Protest application in criminal trials

Protest Application in Criminal Trials

When the Police has given a FR in a Criminal Case (FIR) Filed against the accused, How long can a Court Take to proceed on the FR? That is to say, if the complainant does not file a Protest Application even for 5 years, can the Court keep mum and give Dates after Dates?

As is the Legal position, the accused has no role to play at the stage, Correct, but what is the remedy then or the accused has to live his whole life in the uncertainty of the FR being accepted or NOT?
