what is exparte?

1. What is exparte? 2. What is "against exparte preceding"? 3. Case: I & My brother filled a case against some person for Land compensation & we loss in lower court later my brother filled appeal in higher court but they NOT include my name in appeal. So my question is that if they won can i also will be beneficial or Not (as our interest are same). If not, what can i do? Thanks in advance!
