1. Six years after a special judge granted pardon to businessman Abhishek Verma, who was accused of forging a Zurich bank transaction worth US$ 150,000, the Delhi High Court has criticised the judge for being a ""mute spectator"" to the CBI's ""favouritism"". What annoyed the High Court even more was the CBI's lapse in handing over Verma's criminal records to the special judge, despite the latter's direction to do so.

2. At a time when instances of aggrieved employees rushing to courts to seek parity of pay are common, Supreme Court judge Markandeya Katju has said fixation of pay scales by the courts can ""upset"" the constitutional principle of separation of powers between the three organs of the state. He has warned the judiciary not to usurp powers in such matters as it can have a ""cascading"" effect.
