What is difference between dowry and dowry demand?

What is  difference between dowry and dowry demand?

My understanding is:

Dowry : Gifts given at the time of marriage becomes dowry .

Dowry Demand : Harrashment of wife for bring articles/money comes under dowry demand.

What sections are applicable for dowry and dowry demands?

Dowry is Dowry Act. Harassment is 498a (plus dowry act?)

Thanks Manish Ji.

From your reply I got that

Dowry comes under DPA ( dowry prevention act) .

498a is dowry harrasment or plain harrasment without dowry.

I heard 498a is a continual harrashment. May I know what is continual harrashment as per 498a?

498a is not a continuing offence.

Hi mere demand of dowry is not punishable under 498a its the harassment to meet any unlawful demand for property valuable security etc which is punishable under 498a. Until april 2011 based on various apex court judgements like abraham ajith, bhura ram ,sujata mukherjee etc. it was considered to be a settled law that 498a is not a continuing offence .unfortunately in april2011 in sunitakumari kashyap vs state of bihar apex court has held it to be so , to the utter dismay and profound disappointment of all innocent victims. after apex court judgement in sunitakumari kashyap case it is now hard to make a blanket statement regarding 498a being a continuing offence or not. it will depend on the nature of allegations whether a case of continuing harassment is made out or not wife side lawyers are devouring this judgement and have already started to fine tune their allegations in line with it.

What is material evidence?

Witness statements like asked dowry do not considered as material?

Witnesses can be easily exposed as liars by a clever lawyer during cross examination.
