Duration period rule for claim on ancestral property

Namashkar,

we live in maharashtra we have found old documents and found  ancestral agriculture property near by our village,  i want to know that is there is any govt law that u can only claim your ancestral property in certain period or 20-30 years, if there is more than 30 years can we claim on this property?

Dear Querist,

Though the period of limitation stands at 12 years. You can take benefit of S.17 of the Limitation Act, the period of limitation which is for 12 years would commence from the time when you actually found the documents or could have reasonably with due dilgence could have found the documents.
