What is the import duty if we have mrp printed?

Hello.

I am planning to import some products for retail/wholesale. Certain accessories which we will be getting  prepacked with MRP sticker on it.

What will be the import duty charged on? The value as per bill of entry or the MRP?

I have gathered that the excise duty is charged on the MRP printed. Now MRPs are usually printed very high and includes local taxes. MRP also has to take care of mine, distributor, dealer and retailor margins, interstate taxes, transportation and also marketing expenses.

The duty structure based on my provisional MRP as i see it works out to nearly 70% of the CIF price.

Customs duties are charged on MRP less abatement only for selected items which are notifed by Central Excise vide notifcation no 49/2008 CE ( NT).  this notification also specify the abatement % of each item, which is normally 35%.

Example if MRP is Rs 100, then customs duty ( CVD) will be charged on Rs 65 @12%.
