Stamp paper for affidavit?

An affidavit from the claimant/widow is required to be submitted to get the IT refund of a deceased assessee. Now the question is on what amount of stamp paper such an affidavit shall be prepared? The ITO of the department doesnt have any knowledge in this regard....surprisingly!

Mr.Sourav, usually 20 rupees stamp paper only for affidavit, but nothing wrong in case of stamp value more than that like Rs.50/- or Rs.100/-, but lower value is not preferable... like below Rs.20/- .

Rs.20/- stamp paper is sufficient.

Mr. Sourav,

Mr. Ravikumar & Adv. Rajeev are correct. But If you are in doubt as to the proper stamp duty required for an affidavit, please go and ask the stamp vendors of your locality and they will tell you the proper stamp duty as they are dealing regularly.

Value of Stamp Paper vary from state to state. You have not given the name of your State. So it would be proper to enqire from the Stamp Vendor . In instant case you are required to produce Succession Certificate or Registered Will before the I.T.O. concerned to get the  I.T. Refund .
