Date of next increment on fixation of pay?

On Fixation of pay from consolidate wages to a scale higher than the consolidate wages and more than minimum wages.  Can a employer change the date of increment of the employess from the date of fixation in a scale.  If pay of employee is fixed on 1st April, 2011 in a scale.  Is it correct to give in next increment from 1st April, 2012 or a employee is to be given increment from the date of joining the service in consolidate pay.

If employee B joined the service in 1st july, 2005 in consolidate salary and he is brought in higher scale 1st April, 2011.  Is it correct to give him increment from 1st april, 2012 or he will be entitled to get increment from 1st july,2011. Please advise.

The companies have differant policies on annual increments.Generally it is on a particular day and in majority of the cases it is 1st Apri each year.Comapnies do not give annual increments to a person who has not put in atleast six months service as on the increment date ieto say persons joing after 1Oct 2010 would not be considered for incements in Apr2011.However such thing do form part of your negotiation at the time  of joining
