Burden of examination-in-chief?

1) We are contesting a civil suit where plaintiff bought his fingerprint expert report as an evidence but did not do examination-in-chief.

2) Without doing examination-in-chief we were given right to cross examine. We didn't do cross examine as well. And our right to cross examine was closed

3) After 2 days of closing our right to cross examine, plaintiff moved an application to exhibit the said expert report. But trial court rejected his application stating that he had to move this application on the same day when his witness was present.

4) Trial court decreed the suit in our favour. Plaintiif reached appellate court and now appellate court has remitted the matter back by saying that trial court was bound to accept and exhibit the said report.

Being aggreived by the remand order we want to file an appeal to second appellate order, please suggest us wheher trial court was correct in rejecting application to exhibit the said document after 2 days of closing our right to cross examine? Where can I find jugdements related to this issue? What will I have to search in websites like indiakanoon to read similar judgements?
