How to start a sports association/club?

Hi all, i'm not sure which category i should post this under.

A few of us enthusiasts are planning to start a sports association to promote the recreational sport called Airsoft in India under the name Airsoft Sporting Club of India (ASCI).

It's similar to Paintball sport but uses another kind of projectile. You may find details about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airsoft

We are looking for recognition from the Indian Sports Ministry as a sports body. What steps should we take to achieve this?

Contact the office of the Trust and society registration office of your city and get your association registered.

Sure, i'll do that.

Since ours is a sports related association, will the Section 20 of Societies Registration Act 1860 stand in the way? It mention scientific/literary/charitable purpose.

The target is to recognize this activity as a sport at federal level, which was set due to this reply from the Sports Ministry. The action we proposed was to prevent harassment by customs regarding imports.

"Ministry deals only with grant of recognition to Sports Bodies as National Sports Federation. Till a sport body get the recognition from the Sports Ministry, action as proposed cannot be taken."
