Medical after fir

Respected Experts,

I shall be grateful if you could inform as to within what time a medical should be carried out by the cops after an FIR is lodged on assault.Can the medical be done the next day also after lodging the FIR ?

Generally medical can done before registering the fir by the cops, but medical can also be done on the next day after fir in assault cases, generally court and medical experts recommend within 72 hours medical should be done,especially in rape cases .
