Is maintenance amt taxable ?

after divorce, the amount of maintenance granted to wife, is it taxable ?

Dear Expert, Pl have some more clarity on this

1. Interim maintenance granted by court is also non taxable?

2. If yes, then how we can claim the same for tax benifit?? (uder which section of IT Act)

Interim Maintenance or Permanent Maintenance is non Taxable. 

You are paying this out of your income which is already taxed and hence no rebate can be claimed on maintenance being paid by you.

monthly alimony received by a divorcee from an estranged spouse will remain taxable, while a one-time alimony payment will be a capital receipt and won't be taxable.
