 Hello!

Opening an orphanage requires lots of formalities to be fulfilled and it is advised to hire a lawyer and accountant to help you with the process. The first and foremost thing to do is find land and location where you want to open the orphanage. You will be required to get letters of support from as many people as possible which will help you build an image and avoid problems in the future.

You will need a society registered under the Societies Registration Act under which the orphanage will be opened and further the orphanage should be registered under the  Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000. Contacting the District social welfare officer can help further in the process in a detailed manner. It should also be registered under Income Tax Act, 1961 through a PAN number.

If your organization is expecting funds from outside India then it should mandatorily get registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA). These were the legal obligations that had to be fulfilled. After all this, you have to look out for funding, co-workers, and a good network.

Best regards
