Yes, any suggestion depends upon the bye-laws of the Society and the terms on which the consultant has been appointed.

Generally, no Bye-laws states anything against such engagement of consultants and engaging their own members' safeguards their interests and it is in the interest of society, they can choose the member as a consultant through a resolution in a committee meeting, and then getting approval in General Body if needed.

There is no bar or restriction in law for a lawyer to be appointed as a legal consultant to an organisation or an association or to any body involving public activities, thus even though he is a member of the society, he can very well be appointed as a legal consultant by the society.
