To my knowledge, there are four companies carrying on general insurance business in India : 1 National Ins. Co , 2. New India Ins Co , 3. Oriental Ins Co , and 4. United India Ins Co . These are under supervision and control of General Insurance Corporation of
Am I correct or apart from above, is there any other company also, carrying on General Insurance business in India? What is latest position? I will be grateful to learned members for updating my knowledge.

Thank you mr Kartikeya for providing detailed information. Kindly remove another doubt- you have listed General Insurance Corporation of India in the list of General Insurers. Is it itself functioning as a Insurer or is only a supervisory and controlling body and if it is only a supervisory and controlling body, whether it has controll over all insurers in India or only first 4 public sector companies.
