Title : Need to formulate a mechanism for preventing the incidents of fraudulent NRI marriages in Punjab and other parts of the country.

SHRI SUKHDEV SINGH DHINDSA (SANGRUR): The incidents of fraudulent NRI marriages are on the rise, but the crime goes largely unpunished. Many desperate women abroad are duped or dumped by their NRI’s husbands and thousands of other languishing in their village homes waiting for the call from abroad that never comes. Lying, cheating, false promises, unreasonable dowry demands are just some of the reason behind these unhappy marriages. There are nearly 15000 women deserted by NRI’s in Punjab alone. Stranded in a foreign country, often without any financial support, they have no one to turn to except the Indian Government. There is an urgent need for some institutional mechanism of getting authentic information before these long-distance marriages are finalized. India Mission abroad could help in this regard. Government should also consider bringing in a comprehensive regulation/legislation to ensure that all protection be accorded by law to Indian women, with regard to marriage, divorce, maintenance, inheritance and custody of children etc.

it is still happening in some areas generally.

unless,something is done to eradicate their poverty,or help in the marriage of daughters of these poor illiterate,such things happens.

the greed to make the daughter millionaire plays an important role in breakdown of nri marriages ...... people often expects a lot in terms of monetary gains after marriage but once they see the reality that nris are even working harder to sustain themselves abroad , their dreams gets shattered and marital dispute happens ..... there are many cases in which brides have dumped their husbands after getting a green card status and exploited nri in the hand of sh*tty laws ..... family issues can very much resolved if both the parties are genuine and wants to be with each other ....and there is no intervention of advocates to teach various ways to misuse law for one sided benifits !! ........ an advocates point of view may be different coz it affects their business but fact remains the fact !!

There is lying on both sides. There have been cases where a girl say panjab gets married to an nri in uk.

After being confirmed here the woman starts misbehaving levelling all manner of unfounded charges against

husband. As a matter of fact,she had a boy friend in India whom she wished to import into UK. You should know rest of the story. Thi s is not made up.story.

Of course there are plenty of crooked people of Indian origin in the UK. Best thing is to have a thorough check into antecedents of both parties. Otherwise married in haste repent at leisure
