India fourth most dangerous place for women

Many debates on LCI are focusing on abuse of woman-favoring laws. Yet there is no improvement in the condition of women in India.

New Delhi:  The high number of female foeticide, infanticide and human trafficking prevalent in India has placed it as the fourth most dangerous place for women in the world, according to a survey.

Afghanistan is the most dangerous place for women followed by Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan, India and Somalia in the survey conducted by Thomson Reuters' Trustlaw Women, a hub of legal information and legal support for women's rights.

Three of these countries are in South Asia.

The poll asked 213 experts in the field from five continents to rank countries on their overall perception of danger as well as by six key categories of risk, health threats, s*xual violence, non-s*xual violence, harmful practices rooted in culture, tradition and/or religion, lack of access to economic resources and human trafficking.

"India ranked fourth primarily due to female foeticide, infanticide and human trafficking," the poll said.

In 2009, India's Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta had remarked that at least 100 million people were involved in human trafficking in India, according to the survey.

The CBI has estimated that in 2009 about 90 per cent of trafficking took place within the country and that there were three million prostitutes, of which 40 per cent were children.

Other forms of exploitation include forced labour and forced marriage.

"In India, upto 50 million girls were thought to be 'missing' over the past century due to female infanticide and foeticide," as per the UN Population Fund.

Remembering an old dialogue from SHOLAY....

"Bah! Sharaabi hai woh, Juwaari hai woh, phir bhi besara viru ka koi dos nehi."

Sometimes (Mostly) I wonder, What is the difference between Good & Bad in India ?

You pay the Govt. and....

PROSTITUTION is NOT a Crime.

GAMBLING is NOT a Crime.

GUN-KEEPING is NOT a Crime.

SELLING OR MANUFACTURING LIQURES is NOT a Crime.

------------- They are Licences.

You don't pay the Govt. and ...............

ALL ARE CRIMES.

bhopal gas tragedy is proof that murder is legal, no matter how many you kill, as long as you know whom to bribe

I am not sure wheather it's applicable everywhere or not but.....

Once upon a time, some years back, one of my friend Raju had a Brickfield. A group of Terrorists went inside the Brickfield and Gunned down lots of Innocent Labours. Lots of them Died. Even lots were injured. Ministers, MLAs, Medias, & MPs visited there with lots of  condolences. They even announced rupees in Lacs to be given to everyone Dead and injured. Afterwards I learned that Raju had to pay "under-the-table" to release even those moneys here-and-there. After Releasing & paying those Labour's families, Raju sold his Brickfield to another friend & shifted over to Orrisa.
