in my opinion both are same but when a particular scheme is submitted to the provisions of Maharashtra Apartment Ownership Act, 1970, the Unit sold is being called as " apartment" and the Sale deed exeucted is known as " Deed of Apartment"

Flat and Apartment are both same.  Only difference is that British people use the term "Flat" and Americans use "Apartment"

Hello,

Thankyou for your question.

Difference between flat and apartment

In a general sense, both flat and apartment refer to a self-contained housing unit, designed for residence, that occupies only part of a building. The difference between flat and apartment is-

  1. USAGE:

The main difference between flat and apartment lies in their usage; flat is commonly used in British English and apartment is commonly used in American English.

  1. DEFINITION:

FLAT -A set of rooms forming an individual residence, typically on one floor and within a larger building containing a number of such residences

APARTMENT- Apartment is a room or suite of rooms designed as a residence and generally located in a building occupied by more than one household.

  1. STOREYS:

FLAT- A flat typically contains one storey.

APARTMENT – An apartment can have multi storeys.

  1. LUXURY:

FLAT- Flat sometimes refers to low-quality apartments.

APARTMENT- Apartment sometimes refers to luxurious and expensive flats.

Hope you understand the difference between flat and apartment.

Regards,

Raksha
