Defametion for facebook comments

how to tackle some one who purposely posts highly defametory messages and filthy comments against a person on facebook. The atter was reported to the local police station. They just gave a General Diary number and did not proceed further. They just called the culprit and scolded him.

You can write to Facebook abuse who may ban the person... but nothing stops him from joining under a different name and starting again. Facebook will not reveal details about the person unless an application is made by a law enforcement authority. In general, big providers such as Google, Yahoo... do not like to blow up incidents like this that are happening all the time. There are people who are campaigning for freedom from censorship on the internet...

The consolation for you is that very few people are into reading such postings on the net, apart from the victim and the perpetratot, that is! Things are happening very fast on the net and they are forgotten just as fast!

1simple thing block the person from your friend list if he is in your friend list. you can file a case against him but seems the person is known / friend of yours and i dont think so you want to  go for litigation.

Do you expect the local police station to understand the intricacies involved in Facebook? I would suggest you should adopt the following approach:

  1. Have your local cyber police apprised of the situation
  2. Use Facebook Help Center to report 'bullying by some one' and in the feedback give the comments by your local cyber police. This should expedite them to look into your matter.
