Any Law to be adopted as daughter-in-law

Dear Members,

This question might seem silly but I need the information about the law. Is there any law which allows a woman to be adopted as a daughter in law(DIL) without marrying the son? Suppose the son is already married and the DIL is not ready to look after his parents, Can the parents of the boy adopt any lady as DIL, not daughter to look after them and a grand daughter? Can the original DIL contest for her rights iin any case?

Thank You

I think there is NO such law.

Ha...Ha

Anyways 'original DIL' doesn't have direct any rights (as well as duties) in context to PILs (unless she is not a widow and not dependent on PILs).

But son has a legal duty to look after (or atleast liable to pay compensation in lie of that duty , if parent complain/file suit in court accordingly)

No. There is no such law.

@ Teja

Why not keep a maid or a nurse to look after your parents?

as per law, the status of dil can be obtained only by marriage not by adoption.

seperate law is there for adoption.

you may go to live in with proposed dil.

your parents may accept any girl of yr choice as dil but the legal status she will not get.

Arup (UNEMPLOYED)     08 April 2011

though she will not get legal status but you and your parents have the right to donate money or equivalent valuable things to her (proposed dil).

take care about the ancestrial property - which you can not donate her but may sale it for your need.

 @ Arup ji

It is not legally permissible for a married man/woman  to have a live in relationship.

S.KHUSHBOO VS KANNIAMMAL

Judgment date: April 28, 2010

In appeal filed by the well know actress, Khushboo seeking quashing of criminal proceedings filed against her mostly in the state of Tamil Nadu, for the remarks made by her in an interview to a leading new magazine. The Hon’ble Supreme court opined that a man and woman living together without marriage cannot be construed as an offence.

I am taking this extract from one of the articles posted in LCI itself...

"The Apex court said there was no law which prohibits Live-in relationship or pre-marital s*x.

The Supreme court, held that Live-in relationship is permissible only in unmarried major persons of heterogeneous s*x. In case, one of the said persons is married, man may be guilty of offence of adultery and it would amount to an offence under section 497 IPC".
