Giving option of putting thumb impressions on cheques

A few days back,I initiated a thread that Banks should start getting thumb impressions on cheques.

To some friends this idea was good for decreasing chances of fraud but to some it was a childish idea highly impractical one.

I wonder why not make an optional in starting !

People who feel like putting their thumb impression on cheques be allowed to do so.And with a passage time why not a study be done that whether this move has helped in decreasing fruads or not! If this move succeeds in decreasing the number of cheque frauds then why not make it mandatory afterwards?

Please suggest.

This will make it more authentic. There is nothing wrong with growing misuse and forgery.

Not a bad idea in the era of Unique Identity now being implemented by the Govt. of India with biometric identify features.

While the idea looks good, practically would bring more problems unless the verification is backed up by a system. In an era where technology is at peak by various corporate banking channels like RTGS/NEFT and digital signature, this would be quite difficult.

It could be an additional security feature in addition to signature and can be verified by a system tool, in case

of suspicious transactions!
