PUNE: Frustrated by her alcoholic husband's constant harassment, a 28-year-old woman bludgeoned him to death with the help of her parents at Yamunanagar in Nigdi late on Saturday night.

The Nigdi police on Sunday arrested Christina Petras Mantode, her father Suryakant Borde (58) and mother Lucia Borde (55), all from Anupam Society in Yamunanagar, for murdering 29-year-old Petras John Mantode of Kaunteya Society in Yamunanagar.

Sujit Pawar, assistant inspector of the Nigdi police station said Christina and Petras got married around 2012 and have a three-year-old daughter. After their marriage, the couple shifted to Mumbai, where Petras used to work. "After two years, they shifted to Nigdi near Christina's parent's house," Pawar said.

For the last three years, Christina was staying with her parents as Petras had begun consuming liquor and harassing her. "As per Christina's claim, Petras used to visit her parents' house under the influence of alcohol and would beat her as well as her parents," Pawar said.

About two months ago, Christina's parents had lodged a complaint against Petras with the Nigdi police after he beat them up. "After police intervention, Petras had stopped visiting Christina's parents house. He, however, started harassing her over the cellphone," an officer from the Nigdi police said.

After she began staying with the parents, Christina took a job at a call centre and Petras started working at a private finance firm in Chinchwad. "Petras used to visit her office and often created a scene," the officer said.

Around 11.30pm on Saturday night, an inebriated Petras had gone to Christina's parents' house and started abusing them. Christina's parents and she were trying to pacify him. "When Christina saw that Petras was not in the mood to listen to them, she came out with chilli powder and a spanner. In frustration, she hurled the chilli powder into his eyes and hit him with the spanner. Her parents too hit Petras with a cement block," the officer said.

The injured Petras was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead by doctors.
