As per my understanding, writs are of a civil nature. It is a recourse to the High Court or the Supreme Court in case of infringement of a fundamental right. But only recently I discovered that there are criminal writ petitions also. Could somebody please explain the nature of such petitions and when are they filed. Also please place them in contrast with the civil writ petitions.
