Tax return

my wife is a householder. she desnt file income tax return.

she gets funds from her son occasionally from abroad as a gift from him.is it mandatory for her to file the return for this ? she is 63.

It is not required to file the return of her income.

no. if she doesnt have any other income total of which exceeds Rs 1.90 Lakhs per annum.

Money received from some specified relative (including son) shall not be taxable as per IT act.

If she invests the amount received from her son and gets income of more than 2.5 lakhs per annum (not including amount directly received from son), it will be taxable.
