Stay order and status quo

I want to know that when a court gives stay order till some particular day then what is supposed to happen after the said date? does the order remain valid even after the said date or it automatically becomes invalid? also i want to know in detail what status quo means?

It depends on the nature of the case.

Hi Ananya mukherjee,

Firstly Status quo literally means as is where is condition. The condition of the status quo depends on various things like nature of the case, reliefs prayed for etc...

If the Court have ordered for stay till some particularly date, then the stay will be effective till such date and after the date the operation of the order will be ineffective and have no effect on the proceedings upon which the stay have been given. It will not become invalid but ineffective in operation if not further stayed or been cancelled or affirmed.

As regard to Status Quo, note that the it depends on the order given in that particular case.
