SC stays BMW convict's arrest till July 29

The Supreme Court directed the police not to arrest till July 29 Rajiv Gupta, a convict in the BMW case who has been sentenced to six month imprisonment by the Delhi High Court on charges of destruction of evidence.



Sanjiv Nanda had run over seven people while driving his BMW in a drunken state. He was sentenced to five year imprisonment by trial court, which was reduced to two years by the High Court.



Rajiv Gupta was awarded one year imprisonment by trial court, which was reduced to six months by the High Court.



A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan stayed Gupta’s arrest till July 29, the next date of hearing.
