Question on moral turpitude

Respected Sir,

Being in advovcate profession (though not practicing) can a lawyer offer or demand dowry ? knowing that it is not according the law ..

- is this some thing covered in advocated act of 1961 ?
- What kind of discpelenry action local Bar Council can take on such matters.

Thank you very much

UR profile states U R an Engineer and U say U R a lawyer, kindly clarify before going into the details whether it is a crime or not.

Nobody is above law. The law of prohibition of dowry is applicable to every Indian citizen and nobody can claim an exemption to this rule. What is your actual problem, you may discuss it straightaway instead of going round about.

A person who completed his LLB or equivalent course has to register as Lawyer to practice.  If a person is not a practising Lawyer, most probably he might not have registered with any BAR in which case BAR Council has no power. Even if he is regisered, BAR Council cannot do much in such matters.

As per the existing Laws in the country, no person can demand dowry.  If your allegation can be proved, you can file a FIR against such person.  If you cannot prove the allegation, you shall be facing problem as he may proceed against you for defamation.
