Publishing a book

I am working in the central goverment. i have written a book(fiction) and I want to publish it myself and sell it online as well as off line. Do I have to take permission from any government agency? If I earn money do I have to inform that to my office? Kindly let me know.

Dear Patil,

There is no bar to the literary and artistic pursuits by the government servants.  However, if you publish the book yourself and also sell, then you are indulging in business and that may be a bit of a problem.  The normal practice is to give it to a publisher and get royalty.

If you earn money, you need no inform your office, but naturally you have to disclose it in your income and pay income tax.

This is my view.  You may elicit the views of other experts also.
