We're Hindus and wish to adopt my niece's child. My niece is married and the couple is willing to give us mutual consent for adoption. What is the procedure we must follow for adoption? Who is the authority that grants us the adoption? What forms should we fill and who should we submit it to? We'd like to do this if adoption as per a religious ceremony is not considered legal. Does CARA have jurisdiction over such adoptions within family, when the adopting parents are living in India? Do the 'Guidelines Governing the Adoption of Children, 2011' apply to my case?
