Nhai breaking my house

Recently due to expansion of the NH23 the NHAI is taking our land. We had purchased the land in 1991 and it also had a house (only Ground floor) but now there are two floors. We have also been paying the taxes. We had not received any legal notice but there was anouncement a few days ago that if we do not demolish our house by 14 feburary 2016 (leaving around 75 feet from the centre of the road) it will be forcefully demolished and the money reimbursed from the owner. A good 20 feet of our house in the front will be destroyed if it happens. We have been in great mental agony and had gone to talk to the COO and DC but according to them it is GM land and there is no house whatsoever. We even asked then to do a survey just to acknowledge the existence of the house but they refused citing the GM land thing. We talked to a lawyer but he says that he can only get us compensation for the land and not for the house. He is asking around 40000 just to file a case in the court. Can you provide any guidance in this regard.
