NRC has yet not been introduced in the parliament for discussion, documents required for NRC will be decided only after the bill is duly sanctioned and passed by both the houses.

T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Advocate)     27 December 2019

The CAA has come into force nationwide after its passage from the parliament while the NRC rules and procedures for the country are yet to be decided. The NRC process that is  going on in Assam has been implemented by the Supreme Court and mandated by the Assam accord.

Applicants also had the option to present documents such as refugee registration certificate, birth certificate, LIC policy, land and tenancy records, citizenship certificate, passport, government issued licence or certificate, bank/post office accounts, permanent residential certificate, government .

It would be sufficient for you to provide the details of your birth such as date of borth, place and year of birth.  If you do not have the details of your birth then you may have to provide the same details about  your parents.  But there is absolutely no compulsion to submit any document byor of the parents. Ctizenship can be proved by submitting any documents related to date of birth and place of birth.  However a decision is yet to be taken on acceptable document. This is likely to include voter cards, passports, Aadhaar, licenses, insurance papers, birth certificates, school leaving certificates, documents relating to land or home or other similar document issued by government officials. The list is likely to include more documents so that no Indian citizen has to suffer unnecessarily.

You need not worry, there are a number of documents which will enable you to prove your residence. The list will be declared once NRC is passed and becomes operational.
