Minimum wages to part time workh=kers

Dear Friends, I hire 2-3 parttime(whether substitute or not) as helper/assistant to do petty jobs who will be working daily less than 4 hours. Am I suppose to pa minimum wages to to them and is there any other obigation on me excpt payment of salary. The no of workers are less than 10. Thanks P.C. Joshi

Part Time Employee's are also covered under minimum wage act. The Supreme Court in New India Assurance Co. Ltd. versus A. Sankaralingam held that part time employee are workmen under Idustrial Dispute Act. So they are employee in eyes of law.

In light of a recent leislation passed by Rajasthan Govt that part time emloyee's need to be paid minimum wages not less than 50% of prescribed wages in case of work less than 4 hours.

Thus same system needed to be followed.
