Is a challan for over speeding a criminal offence?

hi,
so I was issued a challan for overspeeding and was not able to pay since I didn't have cash on me. so the traffic police issued a court date. but I'm not in station on that day. what are my options? if I fail to appear in court, will I be considered a criminal offence?

You can be at the court some other day, and make an application to that court to take up the matter. On the same day the application will be taken up, and you will have to pay the penalty imposed.
It is not a criminal offence.

Or its even better to appoint an advocate, who shall appear on your behalf. it will be better than missing a date.

Hi Sayantan, thanks for the opinion.
