3 women end lives in separate incidents
PUNE: Fed up with physical
and mental harassment by husband and in-laws, three women allegedly ended
their lives in the different parts of the city in the last two days.
On Tuesday, Surekha Ashok Asawale (24) of Ordnance Estate, Khadki, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house due to harassment by her husband and mother-in-law. The police have arrested her husband, Ashok (30), mother-in-law, Hansabai (59), under sections 498 (A) (husband or relative of husband subjecting woman to cruelty) and 306 (abettment of suicide) on the Indian Penal Code. Investigations have revealed that Surekha's husband and her mother in-law used to suspect her character.
The other incident took place in Dias plot slums on Monday afternoon. Usha Amol Lomate (24) allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze following mental and physical harassment by her husband. The Swargate police have arrested her husband, Amol (27), and his mother Laxmi (45). Usha's brother Gangadhar Kadam of Kondhve-Dhavade lodged a complaint with Swargate police station in this regard.
On the same day, five months' pregnant Archana Ramdas Pavane (20) of Sargam chawl committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her residence due to harassment by her husband. The Sahakarnagar police arrested her husband Ramdas (24). Sub-inspector B N Rathod is investigating the case.
