My query is pertaining to Indian contracts (between two Indian parties). Service providers provide services to their customers where such services may involve serving on the equipment/ material of the customer. Most of such customers may fail to make payments for such services. To protect the interest of a Service Provider, is it legal to exercise lien on the equipment/ material till such amounts are released? Can the Service Provider insert a clause to that effect in the contract?

You can exercise Lien on the equipmnt and Material till your customers pay their dues. You can also insert a mclause to this effect in the Contract between you and the customer. It is verymuch legal. If you appreciate this answer please click the thankyu button on this forum.
