Adopting within the family

Hello,

A relative of mine doesn't have a stable income source and is finding it financially difficult to raise her 3 year old son. She and her husband haven't been living together since the child's birth. They are not in touch either. But they are not legally separated though and the kid's birth certificate does show his biological father's name.

Is it possible for me to legally adopt the son?  If yes, would that require his biological dad's consent?

If adoption is not possible, is there any other alternative I can exercise to legally help them out? Guardian may be?

Also, I'm unmarried male with a stable income source and can easily take care of the kid.

Adoption is only vaild in Hindu system. If you have a male child alive, then the adoption is not valid.
