Joint power of atorney

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 29 June 2018 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir,
I have father who is a senior citizen and who has recently operated for foot finger. We have a matter that is going in lower courts. I want to take power of attorney from my father to represent on his behalf - that is myself and my wife. In case if I am not available than my wife can represent on my father behalf. What is the meaning of phrase jointly and severally in power of attorney document. Please reply.
Vijay Raj Mahajan (Expert) 29 June 2018
"Jointly or severally" in power of attorney means either both the Attorneys jointly represent the Principal or separately as the case may be.

Thank you sir and what it meant by phrase " Jointly ". Can anyone of us who may not be present or may be out of station for some work. Can POA authorize one agent to represent before any authority.

I hope you understand English, jointly means when both are present in person in station can represent him with his POA, severally/separately means that anyone of you can represent him through his POA.
