what is the legal status of compromise made on stamp papers

I would like to know that if an Investigation officer of a case resolve of matter between both parties then what is the improtance of a compromise written on a plain paper of on a stamp paper duly signed by both parties and witness.

There cannot be any significance of such private settlement without the force of law.

Dear Sir,
i would like to add further more that the declaration or compromise statement given to an investigation officer is acceptable under sec 161 of the Crpc which is taken by the investigating officer to give its final report which may be to conclude the matter or alike. also the same may be reproduced to the criminal court to quash the said FIR or the parties may in person file the said compromise to the court to quash the said FIR.
