if a person is uneducated and doesn't know to write his name , he can put his thumb impeession . question is which thumb should he use ? is it different for male and female ? in which book it is written? where can i find about the same? please help me with answer

Section 3 (56) General Clauses Act 1897 reads:

56. “Sign” with its grammatical variations and cognate expressions, shall, with reference to a person who is unable to write his name, include, “mark”, with its grammatical variation and cognate expressions,
