theft

sir/madam
i would like to know is theft a compoundable offence? if not and if i m ready to pay the fine to the complainant then complainant will withdraw the case against the accused?

The offence of theft is compoundable where the value of the property stolen does not exceed two hundred and fifty rupees.

If the value of property is more then Rs. 250/-,then this offence can not be comoundable as per section 320 Cr.P.C.

Dear Prakash , As per S 320 CrPC , in case of theft U/S 379 IPC , The owner of stolen property may make compromise , if the amount of stolen property upto Rs two thousand only ( as per amendment in CrPC 2005)
