Marriage registration process

(Querist) 15 October 2014 This query is : Resolved
Hi,

Is it necessary to get the marriage registered within 2 months? Is there no scope to register thereafter or is it not allowed at all?

Do we have any professional services provided for making this process smoothly? It seems to involve a lot of paper work, GO certificate, witnesses etc.

Pls advise ASAP.

Madam, Visit your Concerned Registrar Office and discuss with the Registrar personally. You require certain documents like Address proof of both,Evidence of Marriage and two witnesse etc.Your personal visit would make it very simple than depending on some one.

Thank you Sir but you have not answered the first part of the question. I repeat, is it necessary to get the marriage registered within 2 months? Is there no option to register thereafter or is it not allowed at all?

Madam,It is not must.Registration could be done any time complying with formalities but as an advocate forum we would advise you to complete the same at the earliest.

marriage has to be registered within period of one month . if not done within period of one month it can be registered later on payment of fine ,even if marriage is not registered it does not affect validity of your marriage

In your earlier query you said that your marriage is planned to take place in Tanjore. Whether that is over or not? However the procedure is not that complicated as you feel.

Parties to the marriage have to apply to the Registrar in whose jurisdiction the marriage is solemnised or to the Registrar in whose jurisdiction either party to the marriage has been residing at least for six months immediately preceding the date of marriage. Both the parties have to appear before the Registrar along with their parents or guardians or other witnesses within one month from the date of marriage. There is a provision for condonation of delay up to 5 years, by the Registrar, and thereafter by the District Registrar concerned.

Registration can be got done after 2 months after payment of penalty which is nominal. You can download the marriage registration process. Visit the local registrar office and know the process from there otherwise.

You can yourself complete the process or take help of local lawyer.

Since the year 2014 Delhi government has made it compulsory to get the marriage registered within 60 days, however, it can be registered later also, under the Terms & Conditions.
Number of people are available outside the office of Registrar of Marriage, who is generally and ex-officio Addl. D C at district headquarter.
However, after passing of Delhi Compulsory Marraige Registeration Act, 2014 all the SDMs have been granted jurisdiction to register the marriage in a very simplified manner.

This can be known without any difficulty except that one has to make a personal visit to any local registrar office, wherein you will find the procedures found pasted or hanging to the notice board outside the office. Entire doubts in this regard can be very well clarified.
