Online pharmacy

(Querist) 18 August 2012 This query is : Resolved
Hello All,

I would like to know the possibility of starting a Online Pharmacy Website.

I am a technical person, and have absolute zero knowledge about Pharmacy Laws.

Please suggest me about the below queries.

1. Is it legal to sell Medicines Online in India?

2. Do we actually need Doctor's prescription to sell medicines? Is the same applicable to the local medicine stores? Though it is not followed anywhere in sprit.

3. In the Western Countries, Online Pharmacy is legal if the websites can verify the Doctors Prescription? Does it work according to our Laws in India?

Thanks

Forget about starting of an online pharmacy, if you are not a duly qualified and licensed pharmacist.

as per indian law prescription drugs can only be issued on seeing the prescription of doctor by the retailer in presence of its chemist.
Also the bill the retailer gives the patient should have the license no. and name of the doctor. to add to it, the drug supplied should not be in excess of the quantity mentioned by the doctor. hence diifcult to have online pharmacy in india

Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, under which drug advertisements are regulated, has not yet been updated to include television and the Web.

Our law currently doesn’t identify online advertisement or trade of drugs. hence we have number of online pharmacies operating in india
