Buying agriculture land in maharashtra

I want to buy agriculture land in Pune but am not a farmer.My father sold his agriculture land in 2003. Some people told me that I can still buy agriculture land within 12 years of my father selling his agriculture land. I would like to know if this is true as different people are giving different versions. If yes under what law/BTL. Kindly advise & oblige if I can buy & while buying which papers I need to submit of the old property of my father.

Thank you very much Sir for this info. I have gone through the same & it is very useful for me. Could you please help me with the BTL/ references to the same as per law for pt.6 in your answer. Also, on the basis of form 6A should I try to get a farmers certificate in my father's name first to buy new peice of agri land OR can this certificate be obtained in my name?
