i want to know..
when a client ccomes to advocate with a civil matter or criminaL what a lawyer has to do?

understand the case.
If he can handle the matter, and is in court where he usually practice, he can obtain Vakalatnama to plead for and represent the client.

In consultation, and approval, prepare Say & Written Statement, [reply] to submit in court the next date.
Plan the defense if criminal case, and client is accused.

when client comes to lawyer first thing lawyer has to do is to see whether client is in position to pay his fees or not .

Agreed with the Xperts. Before taking brief of any client, first settle the fees and obtain advance, if not full, so that the trival issue of fee does not appear again. Also having accepted brief from a client a lawyers becomes morally obliged.
